Guide to using jhti databases

1. How to Search a Password-Protected Text

The following texts are accessible only by a user id and password, because of copyright agreements with the National Institute of Japanese Literature (NIJL) and publishers. These can be received by emailing us at jhti@berkeley.edu. The user ids and passwords are generally provided within one week. To learn more about these texts, please follow the links below:

2. How to Use Two Modes: “Search” and “Browse”

For “Search”, select either Japanese or English, and then type in the character or string of characters, or the word or string of words, you wish to find and study.

For “Browse”, select either Japanese, English, or Both, and then click on the book or books of a text through which you wish to browse.

Since only the English version of the Preface to the Kojiki is on JHTI, you can neither search nor browse the Japanese original.
